This Sunday's Advent theme is joy. The Bible Project's video about the word "joy" in scripture is so insightful. It shares why Christians can be known to be full of joy even in hardship or persecution, why the Apostle Paul can say that he's chosen joy, even if he's executed.
This joy isn't a happy feeling. It's powerful and it's a gift of the Spirit. It's available to us and growing in our lives when we cooperate with His work. (See Galatians 5:22-23!) And, it's where we'll focus for Advent this week.
Ultimately, Jesus is the source of and reason for our joy. So, it's no wonder that when the angels were announcing His birth to the shepherds they called it "good news that will cause great joy for all the people." (Luke 2:10)
